Hershel Guy Johnson

His funeral service will be held on Monday, April 23, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Community Bible Church in Bayard with Pastor Bradley Kihlthau officiating. Burial will follow at East Lawn Cemetery in Minatare. Casual dress will be welcomed at the service. 

Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Bayard Memorial Chapel. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Bayard Community Bible Church or Rodeo Bible Camp.

Hershel was born on March 14, 1923 to George and Anna Johnson at home on a farm at Tryon, Nebraska.  He attended several grade schools graduating 8th grade at Morrill, Nebraska. 

He farmed south of Stegal for 10 years. He worked as a maintenance man at St. Mary’s Hospital and then at Regional West Medical Center for 20 years.

Hershel attended church at Kiowa Community Church, where he accepted Christ as his Savior. At the time of his death, he was a member of the Community Bible Church of Bayard.

On March 8, 1965, he married Audrey Steffensmeier-Johnson. They enjoyed 47 years together.

Hershel enjoyed rock collecting and making jewelry. He also enjoyed fishing, camping, and gardening.

After living in Broadwater for 20 years, he moved to Heritage of Bridgeport, where he lived the last 2 years.

His family was special to him. He loved spending time with the grandchildren.

His mother, father, 10 siblings and a grandson, Tyrel Johnson preceded him in death.

Hershel is survived by his wife Audrey; two step sons: Dick and Patty Johnson of Ft. Collins, CO and Tom and Bev Johnson of Bingham, NE.  He  is  also survived by 8 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
