
Washburn, Dorothy (Nee Kohlhepp ) Died in Issaquah, WA on April 26, 2011, at the age of 90. She was born in Milwaukee, WI on August 17, 1920, to Charles and Margaret Kohlhepp. She graduated from U of W Madison with a BS in Medical Technology in June, 1942, and married William H. Washburn in August, 1942. Mrs. Washburn worked at Abbott Labs in North Chicago, IL, while her husband was stationed at Great Lakes Naval Center, IL during WWII. She was the first woman hired by Abbott as a chemist. After her 3 children grew up, Mrs. Washburn worked at Lake Forest Hospital for 12 years, then worked for a local doctor for many years. She lived in Lake Bluff, IL from 1946 until her husband died July, 2006, at which time she moved to Issaquah, WA. In addition to enjoying her children, grand-and great-grandchildren, she sang in her church choir for over 40 years and belonged to a local Great Books group. She also enjoyed traveling to the mountains of the US and Europe in her later years. Services to be held at Holy Cross Cemetery in Milwaukee, WI on May 4, 2011. Mrs. Washburn is survived by sons Andrew Washburn of Okeechobee, FL - retired, and Dr. Ronald Washburn of Bossier City, LA - Veterans Affairs physician and Professor of Medicine at LSU; daughter Judith Kriewall of Issaquah, WA - flutist in the Seattle Symphony for 33 years; four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
