Marcella Baum
“Marcy”
March 16, 1944 - May 14, 2013
Milwaukee, WI
Beloved daughter of the late George and Mars Baum.
Special Godmother, niece, cousin, "sister" and friend to many.
Attended Holy Redeemer Grade School & Custer High School, Class of 1963
Marcy worked 32 years at F.W. Woolworth Department Store, in the billing & accounting department.
Marcy devoted herself to the care of her parents through their terminal illnesses. Her mother Mars died of breast cancer in 1982, age 62 and her Dad George, died of ALS in 1998, age 82.
Marcy will be remembered by her independent, free spirit and zest for life, she loved to travel & learn through her travels. Gardening & her flowers were a passion; she took pride and enjoyed her home grown tomatoes.
Marcy was an inspiration, her positive attitude & sense of humor brought joy and laughter to others.
She cared for those who were ill or lonely, for years driving many older friends to appointments, shopping and doing their errands when they no longer could.
Marcy didn’t feel sorry for herself when her own illness placed her at the Highlands of Newcastle; Rehab, Assisted Living, then Skilled Nursing; she took that opportunity to continue in her vocation of care & compassion for others. She would welcome the new & often scared residents, helping them transition in their life changes & challenges by taking them under her wing of care.
Marcy was gracious, patient & kind, the care-giving staff remarked how Marcy would put others needs ahead of her own telling the staff, “Go help them I can wait”.
“Marcy did it her way”, she knew & was proud of her “German” stubbornness.
Marcy had her own style, she didn’t care what others thought. Marcy always took pride in her appearance, wanting to look her best; wearing skirts on even the coldest of days.
Most of all, Marcy will be remembered by her very strong faith that gave her hope, strength, strong will, and determination in her courageous & stoic 19 year battle with cancer.
Her celebration of life will be held Monday, May 20, 2013, at
