Aida (Romanoff) Levi, age 81, passed away in Cambridge, Massachusetts on Tuesday, March 25, 2014. A lover of language and wordplay, a teachers’ teacher and a sensitive soul, she was a true friend and confidant. A world traveler, she delighted in art, music, food, and poetry, and in the joys of life closer to home –her garden, walks through the meadow in Vermont, a cup of tea and a good book, quilt shows, and most especially, her grandchildren. Born June 18, 1932 in Schenectady, NY, she was raised by immigrants over a grocery store before attending Radcliffe College and the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Pre-deceased by her husband David B. Levi, and her parents, Chaim (Herman) and Anne B. Romanoff, she is survived by her daughter, Beth Levi, son-in-law Duff Campbell, and grandchildren Eva and Rafael (all of Little Rock, AR) who gave her a reason to keep living while fighting a long, challenging disease. She is also survived by her brother Marvin Romanoff (Sharon), her brothers and sisters-in –law Minna Schrag, David Goldblatt, Isaac and Judith Levi, nieces, nephews, special cousins, and a very dear friend Jeannette Atkinson. The family also wishes to thank her incredible caregivers Lucilda Dixon, Alverine Walker, Jannette Stephenson, and Moinica McEwan as well as Dr. Anne Fabiny, all of whom became like family.
Services will be held at Levine Chapels, 470 Harvard Street, Brookline on Tuesday, April 1 at 11:30 AM. Interment at Temple Emanuel Memorial Park, 497 North Street, Randolph. Memorial observance at her late residence will follow the interment from 3:30 to 7 PM.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her honor may be made to Harvard Hillel, the Craftsbury VT Public Library, WGBH, or a charity of your choice.
