Carol Owen Roach, age 80, of Brookline, MA, passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2025.
Loving mother to Leah Feinberg (Jay Peterson) of Silver Spring, MD and Greta Feinberg (Matthew Carey) of Newton, MA. Adoring grandmother to Owen and Sylvie Peterson and Abraham and Zachary Carey. Survived by her former husband Paul Feinberg. Predeceased by her sister Elizabeth Gallagher of Sacramento CA and her brother David Roach of Westborough, MA. Daughter of her late parents, Arthur and Ruth (Orr) Roach.
Carol was born in Brookline, but grew up in Stow and Boxboro, MA. She completed her undergraduate degree in English at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She earned her Master’s in social work from Boston University and worked for many years to support and advocate for her clients in the Boston area. She raised her daughters in Brookline, and was active in the Runkle school’s PTA, single parents support group and editor of the school “bluesheet.” She loved birds and plants and planned annual camping trips to the State and National parks of the East Coast.
She was known for her beautiful penmanship, biting sarcasm and extreme loyalty. Though she could put you in your place with the raise of an eyebrow, her people always knew they had her support for life. The challenges she faced did not define her, but expanded her empathy, courage and ability to dignify the struggles of others. Carol always had a soft spot for the underdogs, both animal and human.
She lived with Alzheimer's disease for 12 years and though it slowly eroded her independence, her feisty spirit never failed. The family would like to thank the staff at Belmont Manor for taking such patient and wonderful care of Carol during the last phase of her life.
Memorial Service will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Carol’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org) or WGBH (wgbh.org).
