Charlotte Feldman (Pugatch) of Dedham, on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, MA, at 102 years of age.
She was one of 11 siblings, born and raised in Somerville, MA. She and two of her sisters were athletic women at a time when this was unusual. They took an I00-mile bicycle trip to Cape Cod and were competitive tennis players and downhill skiers.
Later in life Charlotte took up golf and had quite a trophy collection. She chose education as a career and taught elementary school in the Whitman and Newton school systems. She also spent a year in Japan, where she taught elementary level school children.
Charlotte and Harold shared over 40 wonderful years of marriage. Although they had lived near each other in Brookline, they did not meet until they both joined the Boston Ski Club. Coincidentally, Harold had been stationed in Japan during his service in the military. While they were in Japan at different times, that shared experience gave them both a lifelong love of learning about and experiencing new places.
They traveled extensively during their early marriage and especially enjoyed Road Scholar trips, which they felt gave them a deeper appreciation of the areas they visited. In fact, they were such knowledgeable, enthusiastic travelers that Road Scholar invited them to both be a spokesperson for the company.
Charlotte and Harold brought to their marriage a deep love and commitment to family. They had no children of their own, but they were the special and beloved Aunt and Uncle of both extended families. They hosted their share of family get-togethers and reunions, and attended many birthday celebrations, Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, weddings, and other special events.
That same commitment to family also extended to being supportive and helpful to others. On Christmas, because they did not celebrate that holiday, they volunteered at food Pantries to both help those in need and to give the volunteers who did celebrate Christmas the day off.
Charlotte had a very artistic side and the many beautiful art pieces she had collected through the years were displayed throughout her apartment. She loved attending the annual Craft Shows in Boston with her nieces and enjoyed spending much of her time at these events chatting and sharing ideas with the individual artists. She herself was a very talented jewelry artist. She worked with metal, primarily silver, and left behind an incredible collection of her work with which to remember her by.
Harold predeceased Charlotte before they could move to the NewBridge retirement community together. After his death, she remained the beloved matriarch of both the Pugatch and Feldman/Newman clans.
She lived independently at NewBridge for 15 years. Charlotte was outgoing, friendly, and a good listener, and she always looked for and brought out the best in everyone. Charlotte is survived by many loving nieces and nephews. She has been loved and will be missed by many.
A funeral service will be held at Stanetsky Memorial Chapel, 475 Washington Street, Canton, MA on Thursday, April 10, 2025 at 10:00 AM. The service will be livestreamed and may be viewed with the following link: www.tinyurl.com/CharlotteFeldman
A gathering of family and friends will be held at NewBridge on Charles, 5000 Great Meadow Road, Dedham, MA immediately following the services.
Charlotte loved children and the outdoors. Donations in lieu of flowers can be sent to the charity of your choice.
