Dr. Daniel Tassel of Lincoln, formerly of Lexington, died peacefully on October 23, 2017, surrounded by his family. He was the son of the late Abraham and Sarah Tassel of Lynn, MA. For 61 years, he was the beloved husband of Janet (Quinn) Tassel. Loving father of Sandra Tassel and Craig Lee of Bellingham, WA, Robin and Nick Leinbach of Bowie, MD, Abby Tassel and Bruce Lewis of Hartford, VT and Neil and Jamie Tassel of Lexington, as well as devoted grandfather of Sarah, Natalie and Carey. Dear brother of Burton and Carol Tassel of Sharon, Gloria Friedland of Toronto and the late Samuel Tassel.
A graduate of Tufts University and Tufts Medical School, Dr. Tassel began his medical practice in 1954. He was the first internist in Burlington, MA. He continued his work until 1998. Dr. Tassel was also an accomplished photographer and collector of 19th-century photography. In 1984, in conjunction with the Harvard Semitic Museum, he produced a book, The Holy Land Then and Now, in which 19th-century photographs of Israel were printed facing Dr. Tassel’s photographs of the same view. This project took him into people’s homes, onto their roofs, to mosques and introduced him to many new friends. In addition to his love of collecting art, Dr. Tassel was a dedicated birdwatcher.
