Dr. David George Satin of Newton, age 92, died peacefully at his home in Newton, Massachusetts, on Saturday, August 2, 2025. He was the son of the late Amelia and Joseph Satin. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Bernice, devoted daughter Diana Satin, son-in-law Steve Quann, and sister Claire Satin.
He was educated at Princeton University and Harvard Medical School. Thus began a remarkable professional career that spanned over 65 years and continued unabated until his passing.
Over the years he specialized in applying the community health theories and practices of his mentor, Dr. Erich Lindemann. He dedicated himself to keeping Dr. Lindemann's vision current by organizing the annual Erich Lindemann Memorial Lecture Series beginning in 1976. One of his life's works was researching and publishing a three-volume biography on Lindemann and the history of community mental health.
For many years he led a multidisciplinary team of colleagues co-teaching a course at Harvard Medical School on the multidisciplinary health care of the aged.
A unique addition to his scholarly and educational pursuits were the Colloquia on the History of Psychiatry and Medicine he convened for many years. In these, he brought together the best minds to share their studies in progress with the public.
As a former sociology major, he was always fascinated by the cultures and histories of other countries and traveled with his beloved Bunny to six continents and two with his dear brother-in-law Eddie. He never refused an opportunity for an adventure.
A principled, kind, generous, and intelligent man with integrity and quick wit accurately describes our husband, dad, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, and colleague. He will be dearly missed.
Graveside service to be held at the Framingham-Natick Jewish Cemetery, 40 Fairview Avenue, Natick, Thursday, August 7, 2025 at 1:00 p.m.
