Deborah, who preferred to be called Debby with a "Y," was an inspiration to her family, her friends, her caregivers, and every person she ever met!
In 1975 a tragic car accident left Debby in a coma for many months, in which time her family and friends remained by her side. Her traumatic head injury changed the course of her life and eventually the lives of thousands of others.
This tragedy would be the catalyst for the founding of the National Head Injury Association, now Brain Injury Association of America. Debby’s mother and father, Marilyn Price-Spivack and Dr. Martin Spivack, founded the organization because at the time there was nowhere to go for help, as no one who knew how to care for people with TBI or how to provide support for their families. Debby and her mother changed all of this. Their combined determination, courage and chutzpah was only matched by Debby's loving personality.
Debby’s sense of humor, her compassion and her zest for all life was a testament to the power of love.
Debby loved music, she ruled karaoke stages from Massachusetts to Florida. Debby made friends with waitresses, shop clerks, policemen, therapists, caregivers, and anyone who was smart enough to take a minute to chat with her. Debby’s life after the accident was not easy, but she never let it take her joy. Debby never let her inability to be independent dim her light and most of all Debby never let her heart close.
When Debby put her mind to something, her fierce determination ensured she rarely lost. She always knew what she wanted and whether it was her keen ability to communicate with charades, or writing on air or on your arm, she was able to make herself understood!
Debby’s spirit will undoubtedly last forever in the hearts and memories of everyone she touched.
A funeral Service for Debby will take place Sunday, June 8, 2025, at 2pm at Stanetsky Memorial Chapel, 475 Washington Street, Canton. Burial will follow at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham Street, Sharon.
Immediately following the burial, a gathering will be held at the Walden Woods Community Center, 1 Walden Way, Milford.
The family will be sitting shiva at the family home Monday and Tuesday 1-7pm.
In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation in Debby’s memory to The Brain Injury Association of Massachusetts, The Brain Injury Association of America, or Spaulding Rehabilitation.
