Edward Michael “Eddie” Gertz, 62, passed away peacefully at his Florida home on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, with his loving wife by his side.
He was born in Lowell, MA on July 7, 1962 to Edward Gertz and the late Charlene Bernard Gertz.
Raised in Dracut, MA, Ed had an extraordinary ability to connect with people. It seemed like he knew everyone in town, and everyone knew him—whether through a shared laugh, a kind gesture, or his magnetic presence at every Thanksgiving Day football game in Dracut Center. At Dracut High School, he was voted “Most Theatrical,” a fitting tribute to his infectious humor, quick wit, and upbeat personality.
After high school, Ed held various jobs before finding his path at Digital Equipment Corporation, a computer company, where he met the love of his life, Susan. The two would have celebrated 33 years of marriage on May 31, 2025.
Ed went on to work as a courier for FedEx for nearly 20 years, a job he took great pride in. One of his proudest accomplishments came in 2012 when he traveled to Minneapolis, MN and won the National Truck Driving Championship as a rookie in the Step Van category—a moment he never stopped talking about (and we have the rubber ducks to prove it).
Above all, Ed was a dedicated and loving father. He never missed a theater show, dance recital, sports game, or milestone in his daughters’ lives. He showed up, every time, without hesitation. He was endlessly proud of Jennifer and Alaina, and he would do anything to support and care for them.
Ed was truly larger than life. He lit up every room with his energy, humor, and warmth. His ability to make people laugh was one of his most defining traits. He was known for his generosity and willingness to help anyone at any time—dropping everything to lend a hand without question. A hard worker and loyal provider, he took immense pride in taking care of his family. His wife and daughters were the center of his world, and he made sure they always knew it.
Edward is survived by his wife, Susan; his daughters, Jennifer of Raleigh, NC, and Alaina of Alexandria, VA; his father, Edward Gertz of Dracut, MA; his sister, Michelle Gertz of Lowell, MA; his brothers, William Gertz and his wife, Alicia, of Hollis, NH, and Anthony Gertz and his wife, Meredith, of Nashua, NH; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Services for Ed will be held at Sharon Memorial Park Chapel, 40 Dedham Street, Sharon, MA, on Sunday, June 1, 2025 at 10:00AM, with burial to follow. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Tyngsborough, MA, American Legion, 90 Pawtucket Blvd, Tyngsborough, from 2-6PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ed's memory can be made to the American Heart Association.
