82, of Newton, MA, a man of kindness, compassion, infectious curiosity, and a gift for uplifting and encouraging those around him, died peacefully on March 4, 2023, surrounded by his family. Ed was born in North Adams, MA, and educated at Union College and Boston University Law School. He had a thriving career as an attorney, as partner and founder of Shapiro, Israel and Weiner, and as an advisor and counselor to many individuals and businesses even through his retirement.
His practice was characterized by his perseverance; he never saw a closed door that could not be opened. He found joy in helping business owners, family, and friends solve problems and grow their businesses. He led a trade mission to Israel as founder of the New England-Israel Chamber of Commerce and served as the President of the fundraising arm for the Club de Madrid, which is made up of more than eighty former heads of state of democratic countries.
Judaism provided the framework for how he lived his life. He was a person of deep moral integrity. Above all, he was a loving and generous father, brother, grandfather, and husband. He loved feeling the wind by the ocean, was an accomplished bike rider, and enthusiastic fisherman. He enjoyed traveling the world and driving his favorite convertible.
