Eileen Estelle Schwartz (Chava Ester bat Chaia Ruchel ve Chaim Yona) was born on June 30,1949 in Brooklyn NY. She died on March 11, 2025 at Orchard Cove Hebrew Senior Life in Canton, MA.
Eileen was raised in the Ocean Parkway area of Brooklyn. Her brother Benjamin Dov Schwartz was 3 years older, and Ben was a dependable friend throughout her life. Her love of music began early and she played many instruments, but piano and guitar were her favorites.
Eileen went to Midwood High School in Brooklyn, and was an outstanding student, and it was there that she started a life-long practice of creating funny poetry set to popular tunes. She went to the University of Pennsylvania for a BA degree in Psychology in 1970, and then she moved to Boston. In 1982 she received a Ph.D in Psychology from Boston College. She established an independent practice in Brookline, MA, with her focus on children, later expanding to other clients as well.
Eileen had a 30+ year partnership with Helene Weitzenkorn, and they lived together for many years in Brookline and Jamaica Plain, with their Icelandic Sheepdog Ollie. Favorite activities were walking with Ollie around Jamaica Pond, and travel, mostly to places where they could enjoy the ocean, hiking and visiting far flung friends. Eileen was active in her congregation Shir Hadash, a lively havurah.
After 42 years in practice, she retired in 2020 and she moved to Orchard Cove and enjoyed a busy retirement with a new community of friends. Eileen made friends wherever she lived, in high school, college, graduate school, synagogue, neighborhood, and Orchard Cove. She was the glue that kept friends together over time and distance, often enabling them to meet one another and create an integrated friend group.
Eileen leaves behind her brother Ben, her long-term partner Helene, her special cousin/friends Eileen Siegel Frommer and Barry Shapiro, many other cousins, and friends too numerous to count. You know who you are.
A funeral service will be held at the Levine Chapels, 470 Harvard St., Brookline on WEDNESDAY, March 12 at 2:00pm and her burial will take place at the Beth David Cemetery, 300 Elmont Road, Elmont, NY on THURSDAY, March 13 at 1:00pm.
