My name is Kathleen Cramer and my son Jack was a friend of Eitan's. They lived together in Ouray CO for 3 months in the 2013 winter. I think that they also climbed together at other times too.
 Jack is working as a biologist researcher on a Halibut fishing ship In Alaska. He was out to sea and we did not learn of Eitan's death until recently. I wish to express my deepest sympathy. Eitan sounds like a most remarkable young man who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Please know that even though we have never met I am keeping your family in my heart and prayers.

Eitan was on of our guides in 2010 on Denali. I remember his enthusiasm and sense of humor very well. He could always make the heavy hauling days easier with his laugh and smile. On our summit day I had to turn myself around short of the summit and head down. While I was relly bummed Eitan lifted my spirits as we walked down to camp. He could tell I was sad and was very empathetic. I knew Eitan was looking forward to summitting Denali for his first time as well. But he didn't skip a beat when he had to take me down to camp. He gave no thought to his own summit bid and made sure I made it back safely. He was a truly great person who made a lasting impression on everyone he met. I will always remember him. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Green family.

To the Green Family- I have never met your wonderful son and do not know you- except from the Boston Globe story regarding the tragic loss of Eitan. I too, was one of the lucky people to have had the opportunity to journey to the top of Rainer with  Eitan - Labor day weekend 2012.    Eitan's journey was different that weekend, but must be shared.  4 guides, 12 clients.. one early departure down.  We made our way up for a sunset summit and when another climber was having trouble, Eitan was the first to volunteer to guide him down.  No games, no discussions, Eitan was the man to help a fellow climber in trouble.  The group soldiered on to the top and when we arrived back at camp (after midnight), Eitan had pasta prepared for the whole team.  I can't tell you how much that meant to all of us to show up to high camp with a hot plate.  The next day I was feeling the pain of new boots and had raging blisters.  I was unprepared to deal with the severity of my blisters and Eitan went out of his way to bandage them and checked with me all the way down to see how I was doing.  Thank you, Eitan, for allowing me to summit Rainer that day.  Your efforts that day allowed a group of strangers to achieve their goal.  I will be back to Rainer one day and I will always be thinking of you.

I read of Eitan's tragic death, and I wanted to express my sympathies. It has been a long time since I've had any contact with you, but as I am about to leave the Boston area, I was looking through old materials and I came across some of my notes about Elana's work from Schechter. Sadly, I couldn't find anything about Eitan, but I do remember the love and care that you had for your kids and how you were so appreciative about what they learned and how they learned. Our deepest sympathies  go out to you Jeff, and your entire family. No words can even grasp what  Beth,  Elana and you must be enduring over this sudden and tragic loss, but  I/we   somehow felt compelled to share our condolences.
 I fondly recall  first hearing about Eitan thru you Jeff at lunch,  when you and I first met years ago  at RBS Citizens. It was    immediately apparent how much  love  & pride you held  for your children,  and our shared passion of  spending time in the  outdoors  with family. That my wife later on met  you and Beth when Elana was moving here to Cambridge was also a  welcome coincidence. 
As a fellow Colby alumnus and lover of  mountains, I  appreciated how much you admired Eitan's outlook, adventurous spirit and accomplishments, each time we spoke,  and  only wish I had  know him personally. Yet Eitan  had an indirect influence perhaps that he was unaware of, -for it  was you Jeff , who thanks to your son's personal interest & recommendation ,  turned me on to the  book "Mountains Beyond Mountains" and the story of Paul Farmer and PIH-which  I  greatly valued reading  and since  recommended  to  many others thereafter. So thank you  Eitan, and Jeff, - for your inspiration and unknowing influence.  From all that we have read Eitan  seemed to have  summited life, touching so  many lives around the world at such a young age , and  selflessly helped so many others make it to the mountaintop.

I learned of Eitan's passing a few days ago, and it has haunted me ever since.  I feel so very sorry for your loss. Sending my deepest sympathy to Eitan's family and friends - I am so sorry for your loss. I will miss Eitan and am grateful for the chance to have taught and learned from him during his years at Colby College. He was a delightful, generous person - so fully alive in the moment. About a year ago today, both Eitan and Matt Hegeman guided myself and three of my close friends from New Hampshire and Mass to the summit of Mt Rainier. We were all heart broken to hear that Eitan lost his life on the mountain last week. He was an amazing mountain guide who inspired confidence. He was always approachable, positive and optimistic and played a big role in the success of our climb.  He made a genuine effort in getting know each of us. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

I am so sorry for your loss of Eitan. My heart broke when I heard the shocking news. I was lucky enough to know him for a few days last August as he led my friends and me on a climb of Rainier that was more magical that I'd ever imagined it could be. It was apparent immediately that Eitan's confidence, knowledge and patience made him a great guide and his humor and positive attitude made him an extremely enjoyable person. The man that he was is a true testament to the type of family that you are. I climb mountains because I know that I'll find beautiful people like Eitan climbing them too. Like he will for many others, he will always be a huge part of my memories of some of the most magnificent days I've ever seen.

I've known jeffrey since he was 14, one of my oldest friends. we haven't seen each other nearly enough over the years, so i tend to hold on to mental images and pictures i have in my memory of him early on. Recent family photos of the Green family reveal an ebullient, smiling Eitan, and how remarkably similar the youthful Eitan and Jefrrey are. i was soooooo looking forward to meeting Eitan. I had heard what a special person he was on so many levels. i now see with all your comments how special he is. I climbed Rainier with Eitan last August. I will never forget running behind him the last half mile back to the parking lot.  He was such a joyful human being and he truly touched my life.

I worked with Eitan as he began his guiding career on Rainier and I never saw him without a smile ... prayers are with him and his family!

Absolutely devastating news. By all accounts and in his own words, Eitan “lived, worked and played in the hills and on the rocks” and he was fortunate to have found his passion at such a young age.  Many spend their entire lives wishing and hoping to do the same. Eitan made it happen.

Eitan was a star anthropology student and the entire department at Colby mourns his loss. We've loved keeping in touch with him in the years since he graduated and passing on stories about his excellent thesis and undergraduate career to current students. He will remain a role model and we all send our heartfelt condolences to your family.

Chris and I will always be grateful for the skill, encouragement, and joy that Eitan gave so gracefully to our father/son Rainier expedition in the spring of 2010.

Beth & Jeff.  Living across the street from you since the time Eitan was 4yo I have many fond memories of the kid with the long stick practicing his karate in the park.  Eitan HAS an amazing soul and spirit.  For whatever reason his soul is off to the next chapter of his journey, but he has left an incredibly positive memory of his time with you.  Please know that my (our) thoughts are with you as a family.

I was absolutely stunned when my mother told me that Eitan was among the climbers missing on Mr. Rainier. I remember him from Menatoma when we were in high school. I cannot imagine what you are going through and I am so sorry for your loss.

I first climbed with Eitan on Mount Rainier in 2010 and I liked him immediately.  His spirit and easy going personality made the trip.  In 2011 he taught me how to ice climb in Ouray and got me well prepared for my own climb of Liberty Ridge.  In 2012 he did a fantastic job coaching me through my first scary leads ice climbing.  In 2013 he guided me and a buddy through some great ice climbing in Ouray.  For all the time I knew him Eitan was a great person to be around, an excellent teacher, and a very careful climber.  Every time we climbed together there were routes he would not do because the conditions were not safe, even when other climbers were on the route.

My deepest sympathy to his family.  He will be greatly missed.

I lived in Darjeeling, India with Eitan, during our Study Abroad tenure.  He was such a pillar of strength for me while I was there.  We bonded as people and friends, yet most of all shared an amazing, life-changing experience.  We are bound by this and he will always be huge part of who I have become.  From trading music and stories to learning a Nepali while immersed in the culture, Eitan was my brother. My deepest condolences to his family.

While I never had the honor and pleasure of meeting Eitan, I can see the warm and gentle spirit, that he was.  The eyes never deceive.  With my deepest heartfelt sympathy to all who knew and loved him. God will surely cherish him always.

A contact with Eitan that made us feel so good was a delightful unplanned meeting in Waterville after seeing a movie at Railroad Square. He recognized us and started the conversation. He was gracious and fun. The kind of person the world needs!

Eitan was one of our two Denali guides a couple of years ago - cheerful, smart, and amazingly competent over every day of a 3-week climb, Eitan brought life and excitement everywhere he went. He'll be missed.

Eitan wasn't just anyone, he was a kindred spirit.  Ever smiling, his happiness was infectious.  He was the kind of person that even if you hadn't seen him in a while, sometimes he would pass through your memory and you'd smile a little just knowing someone like that was out there.

Eitan guided my wife Sue and me on Mount Rainier last summer.  Eitan had a tremendous spirit, and we were heartbroken to learn that he was one of the guides in this incident.  He was only in our lives for three days, but he left a giant impact.  To know Eitan was to like him.  We affectionately called him the Mayor of Mount Rainier because everyone going up and down seem to know him and couldn't wait to share their latest experiences wit him.  He had an amazing impact on a lot of people and will be missed by all.
