Gerald D. “Jerry” Saks, of Lexington on Tuesday, August 31, 2021. Born in Springfield, MA in 1935 to Selma (Goldberg) & Philip E. Saks, Gerald “Jerry” Saks graduated magna cum laude from Classical High School, and earned a mechanical engineering degree from Cornell University, followed by an M.B.A. from Boston University. He settled in the greater Boston area, and held engineering positions at Sylvania and Blue Star Shoe, while teaching statistics at Northeastern University at night. Subsequently, he assumed a sales position with the Barry Hyman Company, and ultimately bought the company.
In his later years, Jerry received his license as a CFP, established a business consulting practice, and served many loyal clients, who appreciated his financial wisdom, fine character, and witty sense of humor.
Jerry could have been a history professor, with his deep love and ever-expanding knowledge of American and European history, or a lawyer, based on his profound sense of fairness. Friends and family considered him their “go-to” man.
His wife, Jan (Perlmuter) Saks and he met through Jan’s college roommate and beloved friend, Gail Hano, leading to a wonderful 58¾ year marriage. As they raised four children in Lexington, Jerry enjoyed tennis, gardening, classical music, theater, and especially Boston sports. He also dedicated himself to Temple Emunah in Lexington, and cherished vacation time in Chatham and Aruba. Nothing gave him more pleasure than his family, including his cherished children: Jaymie (Chris Diamond), Evan (Jill), Andrew (Deborah), and Rachel Aronis (Jeffrey) and their beloved children: Rachel, Benjamin, Leah, Caralyn, Adam, Ryan, and Sarah. Jerry also leaves behind his dear brother Nelson (Dorothy), his brother Joel (Geri), and many special friends dating back to high school. He will always be a part of us.
