
A 1968 graduate of the University Of New Hampshire Whittemore School Of Business, Hal founded Eckman Construction in Bedford NH, which he co-owned with his wife Amy until 2008, when they sold it to some key employees and retired.
Hal was deeply involved in community life, including at various times Board of Directors of The Easter Seal Society of New Hampshire; Chair Easter Seals Telethon; Incorporator of the Catholic Medical Center; Board of Directors, Child Health Services; Board of Directors, Manchester (NH) Chamber of Commerce: Chairman, Economic Development Committee; Chairman, Manchester Airport Access Road Task Force; Chairman, Regional Economic Development Committee Chairman; Chair of Bishop of Manchester Summer Reception; Finalist, Entrepreneur of the Year, Ernst & Young/Inc. Magazine/Merrill-Lynch; candidate for U.S. Senate from NH.
Deeply devoted to family and community, he leaves behind his wife of 31 years, Amy Kaplan Eckman, two sons: Dan and his wife Meggie of Los Angeles, and Jeff of New York City, as well as his parents, Gwen and George Eckman, of Bedford, NH, two brothers, Larry Eckman and his wife Liz of Amherst NH and Gerry Eckman and his wife Martha of Hollis and Portsmouth, NH., and many nieces and nephews.
An avid golfer, Hal was a member of Quaker Ridge Golf Club in Scarsdale, NY as well as Banyon Golf Club in West Palm Beach, FL.
Services will be held at Temple Adath Yeshurun 152 Prospect Street, Manchester NH at 11:00 am Sunday December 11, 2011, and the family will have calling hours at the home of Larry and Liz Eckman of Amherst, NH on Sunday Dec. 11 from 5-8 pm.
