Irina Goldenberg

Irina Goldenberg of Brighton, MA, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2026 at the age of 87, at the Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. Daughter of Gerson Pittel and Sarah (Burtin) Pittel. Beloved wife of the late Robert Goldenberg. Beloved mother of her daughter Lena Steingard and her son Dmitry Goldenberg. Cherished grandmother of Daniel Steingard (husband of Emilie Records) and a great-grandmother of Ruth Barbara Steingard. Sister of Boris Pittel and of the late Abram Pittel.

Irina was born in St. Petersburg, Russia (then known as the city of Leningrad, USSR), on June 26 of 1938.

She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the Leningrad Pedagogic Institute. She worked as a schoolteacher, then as a computer programmer. The family emigrated to the United States in 1990 with help from family, friends, and Temple Ohabei Shalom of Brookline.

Irina had a long, successful career in the US as a software developer/engineer, with most notable contributions to Healthcare IT, specifically Partners HealthCare System (now known as Mass General Brigham) where she worked for 20 years. Irina received high praise and multiple commendations from Partners and retired when she was 77 years old.

An avid reader with a lifelong passion for her work, Irina also found great joy in the simple pleasures of walking and tending to her plants. She enjoyed music and chocolate cake and was often complimented on her taste and style of clothing and shoes. She was always willing to listen and help others and give good advice in difficult situations.

To celebrate Irina’s fruitful life and achievements, relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service at 1 PM on February 10, 2026 at Stanetsky Memorial Chapel, 1668 Beacon Street, Brookline. Interment will follow at The Independent Pride of Boston Cemetery, 776 Baker Street, West Roxbury.
