Irma (Gordon) Slavitter, age 86, died peacefully on Wednesday, January 5, 2022. Born in Troy, NY, she met her late husband Fred in 1955 when he was a student studying Engineering at RPI and she was at Russell Sage studying Physical Therapy. They were married two years later and moved to Long Island before a job change moved them to Needham with their two children.
Irma was a physical therapist at Newton-Wellesley Hospital for over 40 years. She and Fred were founding members of Temple Aliyah in Needham, where Fred was a Past President. They enjoyed their life with their children Suzanne and Larry and over 30 years ago had a bonus son Daniel when Suzanne and Daniel married in California. As a family they loved to travel the world, and for many years would spend their winters in Southern California and several weeks each summer in Newport, RI.
Most important to Irma was spending time with her family and assisting her husband with doing work around their home. Irma was a bright, strong woman who lived to help her patients and was never afraid to express her opinion, especially when it came to issues involving the family - She’ll be missed by all who loved her.
A private burial will be at Sharon Memorial Park, Sharon MA. A memorial service will be held later in the year. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Temple Aliyah, 1664 Central Avenue, Needham, MA 02492, www.templealiyah.com
