Rachel,

Like Andre, I just read about Jeff in the Union College magazine.  It was such a long time ago that we were all there together -- I was just thinking the other day about choices made, my going to grad school while Jeff and Ira went off to their grown up jobs!  But even though it has been decades, it is way too short a time passed for us to be reading about one of us passing from this world.  

I am so, so sorry for your loss.

Rachel,

I was deeply saddened by the news of Jeff's passing.  Jeff and I seemed to be on parallel paths since middle school.  We lived on two different halves of the same street, we went to SV Junior and Senior HS together, we went to Union together, we moved to MA and worked at MITRE together and even bought the same first car (though his was a much better color).  Most importantly, we both met and loved you.  I am so glad that we were able to see each other at our 25th ReUnion.  You and the kids are in my thoughts and heart.

I had the wonderfully good fortune to work with Jeff for a few years in the late 90’s at Concept 5.  I found Jeff to be both a wonderful colleague, amazingly competent professional, and a tremendously caring manager to his staff. But more than any of that, I will remember the way he spoke of his family as we had dinner together on business travel in a little town north of Philadelphia in 1997. While we all love our families, I have not heard a more genuine nor eloquent description of it than the one Jeff provided me on that evening. Clearly, you were all blessed to share your lives with him, as I was to share a couple of years. You have my deepest sympathies for your loss, but I have comfort knowing you will have the memories and imprint of him forever.

Dear Bergers...I was stunned and so deeply saddened when Jon called to tell me the terrible news. Jon and Jeffrey played together..and talked on their walky-talkys at our home in Pomona as adorable, loving little boys. I send my most heartfelt sympathy on your terrible loss. Dear Rachel, Michelle and Jason,
   I am so very, very sorry for your loss.  When I consider the impact that Jeff's passing has had on me I can't begin to imagine the grief that you are feeling.  I wish that I could somehow eliminate your grief, but all I can do is share it.

   This is a huge loss for all of us because Jeff made a difference in the world by his actions, words, and deeds.  He was a family man of high integrity and commitment, and the kind of person you could trust with your life.  I know how much Jeff loved all of you because he spoke of you constantly, and when he did it was clear from the look in his eyes and the smile on his face that he cherished you all deeply.  One thing I will never forget about Jeff is that whenever he was on a business trip he always made sure that he was able to call Jason for his bedtime story.

   I have called Jeff a colleague for the past decade, but more than that I have called him a friend.  Jeff has been such a large part of my life for all the years that we worked together at RSA that it is difficult for me to accept a world without Jeff in it - like everyone else I assumed we would have many more years together.  Jeff was a wonderful person and a great leader in our company and industry, and I always considered it an honor and a privilege to work with him.

   Jeff was the kind of person that you wanted in your life, and now we have lost him.  A part of me is gone - I will carry my many fond memories of Jeff, and my personal grief of his passing, with me for the rest of my life.

To the family of Dear Jeff:  

I used to report into him when I was in RSA â€“ I have worked closely with him for nearly four years and being based out of India, my interactions used to be on the phone and when he used to visit Bangalore each quarter.   

One of the finest person, human being and honest individual I have ever met â€“ he is missed by all of us and his colleagues here in India â€¦ Words and emotions fail me in trying to react to this loss, still can't believe that this has happened,  the memory of our last meeting (about 3 weeks ago) is still fresh in my mind and when we spoke of so many different things, it was evident how deeply he cared about his familyâ€¦  

Please accept our deepest sympathies, I am indeed fortunate to have known such a fine person...

Dear Rachel, Michelle and Jason:

The news about Jeffrey is very hard for me to process. Sue and I just celebrated our 50th anniversary with a wonderful party at our home on the 25th and we were honored that your parents Marvin and Elsie Cohen were with us. They left on a high note after the party for New York. After all your mother had to be at work the next day. They of course reported on you, Jeffrey and the kids. Then Elsie called after we returned home from shul and a family gathering on Thursday. I knew something was very wrong as soon as I heard her voice. All sorts of dire things went through my mind in a flash. What never occurred to me was what she told me. It immediately brought to mind the time in June of 2010 when Jeffrey and I walked through the old city of Jerusalem talking about what he was doing and what he planned to do. Now that talk through the old city will be my last I will ever have with him.
