SHAPIRO, Dr. Jordan Leon Of Brookline, Wellfleet, South Yarmouth, and Sea Ranch Lakes, Florida, died peacefully on February 9, 2015 with family at his side. Jordan was born on November 8, 1927 in Worcester, Massachusetts. After his family moved to Brookline, he went to Brookline High School (Class of 1946), attended Suffolk University and graduated from the Massachusetts College of Optometry, now the New England College of Optometry (Class of 1952). He owned and operated the Vision Care Center in Coolidge Corner for 51 years. Jordan was also a professional drummer, following in his father Joe's footsteps, and a successful businessman. In the early days, music gigs paid for his education and helped support his family. In his later years, the music business was a source of great friendships and pleasure. In business, he became one of the founding partners of The Interface Group, a computer tradeshow company launched in the early days of the computer industry expansion. Interface later diversified by purchasing and expanding the Sands Hotel in Las Vegas. When not involved with business, Jordan treasured the outdoors -- fishing, hunting, skiing, or just taking rides to explore New England. There perhaps was nothing he enjoyed more than summer days spent with family on the beach in Wellfleet and messing around on his boats. Jordan is survived by his longtime life partner, Julie Donahue; his wife Dorothy (Luwisher) Shapiro, his sons, Andrew (and Ruth Bonsignore) of Needham, and Joseph (and Lynn Clark) of Boston, his daughter, Gail Shapiro (and Kevin Moore) of Santa Monica, California, and his loving grandchildren Daniel, Ruben and Anna Shapiro, and Emily and Lena Moore. He was the son of the late Joseph and Lena (Cohen) Shapiro and preceded in death by his beloved little sister Sandra Adelson and his grandson Kyle. A celebration of Jordan's life will be held at the Stanetsky Memorial Chapels, 1668 Beacon Street, BROOKLINE, Massachusetts, on Friday, April 17, 2015 at 12 NOON. Although Jordan had many places he called home, he never fully left Bridgeport Street and the seven hills of Worcester. He always spoke proudly and fondly of what he considered his true home. Expressions of sympathy may be made in Jordan's memory to the Joy of Music Program, 1 Gorham Street, Worcester, MA 01605 (www.jomp.org). This charity represents Worcester and music; two things dear to his heart.
