
Bornstein-Joseph, of Needham, MA, passed away on August 14, 2016. Dr. Bornstein received his Bachelor Degree from Boston College, where he was Valedictorian, and his PhD in Chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology at the age of 24. He was a Professor of Organic Chemistry at Boston College for over 40 years, as well as a renowned fluorine and polymer chemist. Dr. Bornstein advised and guided countless doctoral students in the field of Organic Chemistry, many of who pursued careers in industry, medicine and academia. In addition, he was the author of numerous scientific publications. He had a lifelong passion for photography that included shooting, developing and printing. Dr. Bornstein was a proud native of Boston. For 61 years, he was the beloved husband of Amalia (Midlarski) Bornstein. Devoted father of Bruce Bornstein and his wife Wendy, Linda Bornstein and her partner Alan Seewald, & Karen Jacobson and her husband Donald. Cherished grandfather of Gregory, Rachael, and Michelle Bornstein, & Samantha and Jessica Jacobson. Loving brother of Adele Pechet, Leonard Bornstein, Dorothy Sarnevitz, Phyllis Kasdon and the late Morris Bornstein, and Mollie Pearlstein. Services at Stanetsky Memorial Chapels, 475 Washington St., Canton, MA on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at 12:00 noon. Interment to follow at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham St., Sharon, MA. Memorial observance will be at the home of Bruce and Wendy Bornstein immediately following interment until 9 pm and continuing through Thursday, August 18, 2-4 & 7-9 pm.
