

Joseph B. Porath of Providence, Rhode Island, passed away on November 29, 2025. He was born in 1936 in Timisoara, Romania, the son of the late Yaakov and Bluma Fruchter. A child survivor of the Holocaust, Joseph overcame hardships related to the war and went on to build a remarkable life.
After fleeing the war, he moved to Israel, where he served as a tank commander in 1956. He later pursued his studies in Germany, earning a degree in mechanical engineering. After marrying his beloved wife Bella (Feder), in Israel in 1963, they moved to Brooklyn, NY before finally settling in Providence, RI in 1968. Joseph ran a successful real estate business until 2019.
Joseph was married to Bella for over 61 years. Together they raised their daughter Rebecca and their son, Ashley. He was a proud grandfather to Avi, Jacob, Ethan, Sophia, Talia, Benjamin, Joshua, Rachel, and Jonathan, and a cherished great-grandfather to Lyla, Dylan, Ella, and newly born twins Baby Boy and Baby Girl.
Brother of beloved Ella and the late Chaim z"l Sugarman of B'nei Brak, Israel; beloved brother of the late Tziporrah and the Moshe Yager z"l of Miami, Florida.
Joseph’s greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, who brought him endless happiness. His legacy of resilience, love, and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A graveside service will be held at Zviller Cemetery, 776 Baker Street, West Roxbury, on Monday, December 1, 2025 at 1:00 PM. Shiva will follow services at the family home from 4PM - 8PM and then will continue Tuesday -Thursday from 4-8 pm.
