Leonid Roytberg, on May 27, 2021. He was born in Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine (USSR). He did his military service for 3 years in Moldova and after that studied in Polytechnic Institute and then at Dnipro University graduating with a Master’s Degree in electrical engineering in 1966. He did it all at night, while working during the day in order to support his mother and sister, and subsequently his new family. Anna and Leo married in 1960; a true love match. They lived in Dnepropetrovsk until him, his wife Anna Kanter, daughter Alina Roytberg and mother-in-law Revekka Kanter, immigrated to the USA in 1978.
He adjusted to the new life quickly, and continued his career as a mechanical design engineer working for multiple manufacturing companies here in the Boston area.
A talented engineer, he designed auto mechanical switches and produced two US Patents. He retired content with his career.
Leo was passionate about chess, loved to watch boxing, hockey and soccer. He loved to sing old songs, and was a member of the choir at his adult day program at Pearl Day Care. He always enjoyed listening to music and had a huge classical vinyl collection he played on his turntable. He became a loving grandfather to his granddaughters Thais Glazman and Dalia Glazman.
He always loved food and family dinners. Anna Roytberg was an amazing cook, and he was always spoiled with her cookery, they travelled together and enjoyed simple things in life. He lost her to heart disease in 2004.
He lived in Brookline, Massachusetts until 2019, when he moved to his second home at Hebrew Senior Life, where he enjoyed the company of a close-knit Russian speaking resident community and a caring nursing staff. The family visited him there frequently.
We are going to miss his smile, his optimistic outlook and kindness.
