June 11, 1939 – April 1, 2026
Lina Maystrovsky was born in Kharkov, Ukraine, before World War II. During the war, her family was evacuated to Belorussia.
From an early age, Lina loved music. She sang and performed in several concerts, and music was truly a family affair—her father and siblings sang with her. After graduating from high school, she faced a meaningful choice: to attend a conservatory for vocal training or to study mathematics at the university. She chose mathematics and went on to earn a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Kharkov University.
In 1962, she married Gennady Maystrovsky.
While living in Ukraine, Lina was a refusenik, and during that difficult period she devoted herself to teaching. She tutored many high school students in mathematics, helping them gain admission to college. Many of those students remained deeply grateful to her for the opportunities she made possible.
In 1987, Lina immigrated to the United States with her family. She began her career here as a software engineer and later became a manager. She was very proud of her professional achievements, and rightly so.
Lina loved to travel with her family. Her travels included hiking in the mountains—such as in Georgia—as well as trips throughout Europe. She found joy in discovering new places and sharing those experiences with the people she loved.
She adored her grandchildren—David, Sam, and Ben. Lina always chose to see the good in people. She was generous, kind, and open-hearted, and her friends and family deeply appreciated those qualities.
She will be remembered for her strength, her intellect, her love of music, her devotion to family, and her unwavering belief in the good in others.
