Sister of the late Barbara M. Sherman. Mother of Sally & David Lebwohl of Cambridge, Emily & Richard Lee of Albany, and Martha Lipson of Waban & Chris O’Connell of New Hampshire. Marion was born on February 25, 1927, in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, to Lena & Meyer Berkman. She joined her older sister in Boston, where she graduated from Simmons College, and went on to work in publishing and as a secretary at M.I.T. Before having children, she spent a year in Japan with her husband Lou while he was in the service. She raised her family in Newton, where she lived for 67 years, and spent every summer since 1963 in Stockbridge, where her husband Jerry played viola at Tanglewood with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. She actively volunteered in the Newton Public Schools, which her children attended, and taught English to new immigrants through One to One.
Marion had a genuine interest in everyone she met. She had a great wit, spoke her mind, and displayed enormous strength throughout her life. She was the matriarch of her family and created community wherever she went.
