Mark Federman, of Dedham, formerly of Natick passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2020. Born in Brookline on September 23, 1935, he was the youngest child of Julius & Sarah Federman. Beloved husband of the late Jacqueline “Jackie” (Cashman) Federman, his wife of nearly 50 years. Loving father of Debbie Tishler & her husband Gerry of Natick; David Federman of FL; and Ellen Fuller & her husband Matt of TN. Treasured grandfather of Julie & her husband Zach, Blake, Jared, Daniel, Nathan and Rebekah. Dear brother of the late Robert Federman and Muriel (Federman) Kessler. Adored companion of Audrey Rubin.
Mark was an excellent baseball player despite suffering a permanent leg injury as a child as a result of contracting Polio. He pitched for Northfield Mount Hermon, where he attended high school, and later Springfield College, even securing a major league tryout. Despite depriving him of his dream of one day playing professional ball, he often credited Polio with giving him perspective on what was important in life, which was evident in how he lived it. Mark went on to earn a masters degree in education from Boston University and spent his career as a guidance counselor at Brookline High School, where he made many lifelong friends. He became deeply involved in Natick Little League, for which he was a beloved coach and the league’s treasurer. He always prioritized giving back to those who were less fortunate and after retiring he became an engaged volunteer with Bethany House Ministries, through which he provided free counseling to prison inmates who he came to consider his friends and continued to keep in touch with.
Mark was an avid golfer and loved cheering on his Boston sports teams, at various times holding season tickets for the Bruins and Red Sox. His greatest passion, however, was his family and nothing brought him more happiness than spending time with, or simply talking about, his children and grandchildren. The family would like to thank all of the health heroes at Brigham & Women’s hospital who cared for him in his final days.
Due to the current health crisis, funeral services are private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity that means the most to you or to Bethany House Ministries, http://www.bethanyhouseministries.org
