

Morton Camac, age 89, died at his home in Lexington, April 12, 2012, surrounded by his family. For 58 years, the beloved husband of Marcia (Paley) Camac. Loving father of Norman and Jody Camac, Ann and Gideon Ben-Horin, and Joyce and Gary Weiser. Loving grandfather of Jeremy, Michael, Adam, Rebecca and Lisa. Dear brother of Shirley Albert and Libby Jacks and uncle of many nieces and nephews. The son of the late Mollie and Jack Camac, he was raised in Chicago. He attended the University of Chicago. While there, he became involved in the Manhattan Project, and was at Los Alamos and Tinian where he did studies of nuclear energy and was one of the scientists to assemble the second nuclear bomb that was dropped over Nagasaki. After the war, he went to Cornell where he received his Ph. D in nuclear physics. Following Cornell, he taught at the University of Rochester and then was a senior scientist at AVCO Everett research lab for 14 years. In 1970, he co founded Aerodyne Research, Inc of Billerica where he worked until his retirement in 1992. His later years were filled with volunteer activities and special time with his wife, children and grandchildren and extended family and friends. Funeral service will be at Temple Emunah, 9 Piper Road, Lexington 02421 on Sunday, April 15 at 10:00 AM. Burial to follow at Westview Cemetery. Memorial observance will be at his late residence Sunday 7-9PM, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at 2-4 PM and 7-9PM.
