Dr. Richard Colman, 71, died peacefully and surrounded by family on May 6, 2018. He was the son of the late Joseph and Adele Colman, and he was born in Attleboro, Massachusetts, in 1946. A graduate of the University of Massachusetts Amherst, he completed his medical studies at the University of Guadalajara, Mexico. He served for twenty years as a urologist in the United States Air Force, retiring as a lieutenant colonel in 2001. Most recently he worked at the Manchester VA Medical Center in Manchester, New Hampshire, until his retirement in 2015.
He was known for his extraordinary and generous sense of humor, his care for people, and his curiosity about everything. That curiosity led him to a lifelong love of travel; his service in the Air Force took him from Germany to Colorado, and he continued to travel widely after retiring from the Air Force. He was adventurous—a skier and hiker—and always interested in exploring the world. For those reasons and so many others, he was a rare and wonderful conversationalist.
He is survived and will be deeply missed by his partner Carol Curland; Debra Colman; his beloved children, Stephanie and Daniel; his siblings, Neil Colman (Beverly), Linda Freeman (John), and Susan Colman; and many cousins, nephews, and nieces. He was predeceased by his brother Gerald Colman.
