

Appel, Ruth, (Williams) 95 of Newton, on October 31, 2014. Beloved wife of the late Arthur S. Appel. Loving mother of Kenneth Appel and his wife Susan of Watertown, Jordan Appel of Needham and the late Gail Appel. Cherished grandmother of Jennifer Downs and her husband Robert of Redondo Beach, CA, Katie Appel of Watertown, MA, Marc Appel of Waltham, MA, Ari and Isaac Appel of Newton MA. Born in Boston and lived there as a youth, Ruth developed friendships that she maintained until her passing. Ruth moved to Roxbury, MA where she graduated high school. During the WW2 period, she met Arthur. Ruth ran a commissary stateside while communicating with her husband-to-be in New Guinea. In 1951, they moved to Newton. A travel enthusiast and independent business owner of A&A Travel in Framingham, Ruth experienced cultures from every corner of the world, including the first travel group to be allowed to enter China. She devoured books on all matter of subjects and circumstances, even sitting in a small boat while her husband fished. Ruth always enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved the theater, museums, movies and in later years she was a regular attendee of lectures on art and history. Ruth was an avid Bridge player, meeting weekly with the same group of friends for over 40 years. Ruth will be remembered for her intelligence, tenacity, and high energy. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a service at 12:00 Noon at Stanetsky Chapel 475 Washington St, CANTON, MA. Interment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park, Sharon. Memorial observance will be held immediately following interment at the home of Kenneth and Susan Appel. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Memorial Contributions, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284 or to the charity of your choice.
