

Ruth Rosenthal Hecht, passed away on Monday, August 19, 2013 of congenital heart disease. Her beloved husband, George, passed away from complications from heart disease on June 14, 1994. She leaves her son, Mark J. Hecht, of Brighton, MA daughter, Brenda Hecht Gordon and son-in-law, Ian H. Gordon, of Houston, TX. She was the sister of the late David Rosenthal and Mitzi Richman.
Ruth was born on May 19, 1919. She graduated from Brookline High School in 1937. Upon high school graduation she attended Hickcock Secretarial School. She worked as a secretary in Filene's for several years in Boston prior to her marriage to George October 19, 1947. She spent the early years of their marriage in Germany, where George worked as an educator. In 1950 she and George returned back to Boston with her five month old son, Mark.
Ruth assisted George in secretarial duties in his part-time private tutoring business. Ruth and the late George Hecht were founding members of Temple Beth Elohim, in Wellesley. Though Ruth was a quiet, reserved person, she was thoughtful and possessed an old fashioned politeness. This etiquette included writing thank you notes, returning friends phone calls promptly and being prompt to lunch dates.
Ruth enjoyed sewing and needlepoint. She was not an animal lover. Nevertheless, in her thrice weekly calls to Houston, she often inquired how Brenda and Ian's pets were doing, realizing how much their pets meant to them.
Services for Ruth on Monday, August 26 at 10:00 AM at the Stanetsky Memorial Chapel, 475 Washington Street, CANTON, with interment to follow at Sharon, Memorial Park, Sharon. Donations in her memory may be directed to VNA Hospice Care, 100 Tradeway Center, Woburn, MA 01801.
