COHEN, Sally, 94, of Lexington, MA. Formerly of New York City. This vibrant, gregarious, outgoing woman was liked by everyone who knew her. Born and raised in New York City, she overcame a difficult, poverty stricken childhood, during the Great Depression. One of 7 living children, she was left alone, to raise her 3 younger siblings – Frances, Beatrice and Isadore, when both of her parents became ill and passed away, before Sally reached the age of 21. She subsequently married the late Hyman Cohen, an electrical engineer and had 3 children – Linda Cohen, Judy Hunter and the late Neil Cohen. At the age of 80, she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, at which time, she then moved to Massachusetts. She spent the last (nearly) 10 years, at a local nursing home in Lexington, MA. Memorial services were held at the Stanetsky Memorial Chapel in Brookline, MA. Interment was in Cedar Park Cemetery in Westwood, New Jersey. A gathering of family and friends, to honor the life of Sally Cohen, will be held at the cemetery, at some future date. In lieu of flowers, memorials to her memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, MA Chapter, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
