He attended the Fessenden School and graduated from St. George's School in Newport, Rhode Island. He attended Syracuse University and received a Bachelor Degree in Fine Arts from Emerson College. Sam began his career in stand-up comedy in New York, and later Los Angeles. He was a gifted standup comedian, once voted the funniest comedian in New York, who parlayed his creative genius into a writing career, selling many screenplays and collaborative film projects. He wrote and starred in his one-man-show, "Neurotica" to critical acclaim in 2005. Sam was a celebrated comedic screenwriter with many future projects in the works at the time of his death.
Sam is survived by his wife Ilona and his two young sons: Max, 3 and Leo, 5 months. Sam was the beloved youngest son of Judith Brown Caro of Brookline, and Richard Lawrence Brown, who died when Sam was 13. Sam also leaves his sister Lisa Claudia Briggs of Harvard, MA, his brother Adam Singer Brown of San Clemente, CA, as well as his niece Amanda Brown and nephews Austin Brown, Luke and Nicholas Blauch, as well as Lily, Cat, and Will Caro. He was also stepbrother to Rob, Roger, and Peter Caro. Sam was an exceptionally devoted husband, father, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, nephew, and friend. His capacity for creating love and connection amongst those he loved was remarkable and precious. Sam was a bright light who lived passionately and who brought more humor, more love, more goodness, and more integrity to everyone he met. He was a loyal and avid Boston sports fan but was happiest playing ball with his son, Max. As Sam always said "He who laughs, lasts"
