Scott A. Lakin, age 60, passed away with his adoring wife and daughter by his side on Saturday, January 24, 2026.
Scott's family was the most important thing to him. His happiest moment came when his daughter Stefanie was born and his proudest and most significant achievement was raising Stefanie to be the person that she is today.
Scott was born in Newport, Rhode Island, and grew up in Stoneham, Massachusetts. He was the son of the late Sheila Herbeck and the late William Lakin. He graduated from Stoneham High School in 1983 and received his BS degree in Government in 1987 from Suffolk University. Immediately after graduating college, Scott went on to attend Suffolk University Law School and in 1990 he received his Juris Doctor Degree beginning what would end up being a legal career of more than 30 years.
Scott grew up in a home which emphasized the importance of helping others and serving the community. He spent the greater part of his life trying to help. As a teenager he achieved the Boy Scout rank of Eagle Scout. While an adult he joined the Masons as a member of Mount Hermon Lodge and Golden Rule Lodge. During his tenure as a member of the Masons he served on the Grand Lodge Service Committee, whose goal was to assist Masonic brothers in need.
In 2006 Scott became an Aleppo Shriner and a dedicated member of the Clown Unit. Upon joining the clown unit Scott’s alter ego, Snarfie T. Clown was born. Through “Snarfie”, Scott was able to passionately achieve his long-held need and desire to help those in need and not just any group of people, he was dedicated to helping those who were the most in need…children. While countless hours were spent parading through local communities, performing at the Shriners Circus and visiting children at the Shriners Burns hospital, there was always one goal and that was to help a child, in any way possible, find relief for a brief time from their difficult situation. Scott’s dedication to the kids earned him the “Clown of The Year” award in 2010 and the position of Assistant Boss Clown within the clown unit.
Scott is survived by his wife of 35 years, Elyse and his daughter Stefanie; His brother Peter and his wife Erica of Reading, MA and his sister Bryna and her husband Michael of Stoneham, MA; niece, Rebecca of Stoneham, nephew, Max and his partner Rebecca of Lowell and nephews, Matthew and Myles of Reading. He is also survived by several aunts and uncles, all of Maine as well as numerous cousins.
