After earning a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Chicago, Keller spent his entire research career at IBM, primarily at Yorktown Heights but also consulting at the Zurich and San Jose labs. During his tenure, Keller was the Director of the Physical Science Research Dept, and served as consultant to IBM's Director of Research. Editor of Handbook of Semiconductors: Materials (1980), Keller also taught at the Universities of Bochum, Grenoble, Stuttgart and Trieste. As a recruiter of research physicists and chemists, he made a lasting imprint on the scientific community with his uncanny ability to recognize promise and excellence. His no-nonsense advice and support, both personal and professional, resulted in significant advances in the field of solid state physics.
Perhaps best remembered by family and friends as an informed cook and gourmet, he enjoyed travel and all things intellectual and cultural.
