Shai Inbar, PhD, age 79, died on May 20, 2021 in his home in Brookline, MA after battling liver disease connected to his 7 year survival of pancreatic cancer. Beloved husband of Cynthia Baron, devoted father of Adi Inbar and Ofer Inbar & his wife Ceila, brother of Avi Inbar & his wife Estee, and uncle of Rachael Martin, Ori Inbar & his wife Adi, and Matan Inbar and Hadas Inbar.
Shai was born in Afula, Israel to Vova Yankelevitch of Ismail, Romania and Esther Glickshtern of Beltz, Moldova. He served as a major in the Israeli army in Uganda and during the Six Day War. He received his Doctorate in Chemistry from the Technion, and did his post-doctoral work at Brandeis University under Professor Saul Cohen. He worked as a senior scientist at Polaroid Corporation, guiding the creation of films and processes for instant photography, and as Director of Research at PB Diagnostic Systems. In 2001, he made a career change, becoming a senior software engineer at Emptoris, later part of IBM. He retired in 2015.
Shai was an avid skier and kayaker, an adventurous traveler and a wine connoisseur. He was famous in his large circle of friends for his dinner parties, sharing his joie de vivre and creative culinary skills.
Funeral services will be private.
