Stanley was born in Lynn, Massachusetts, to Abe and Sarah Sherman, z”l. He grew up in Lynn with a large extended family of grandparents, uncles, aunts, and several generations of cousins, many of whom had come to this country from eastern Europe. Yiddish was spoken in our homes.
At an early age, Stanley acquired the nickname Butch. As a young boy, he was full of fun and laughter. It was the beginning of his engaging personality. Stanley loved people and in turn, people loved him. He was a great conversationalist who could brighten up a room with his sense of humor and storytelling.
After college, he moved to New York City to work for Federated Department Stores. He then began a very successful career in television syndication, selling reruns of popular shows, first as eastern sales rep for Columbia Pictures Television and then as regional sales manager for Hanna-Barbera.
After New York, Stanley moved to Vermont, where he enjoyed the outdoors, particularly his love of skiing. For the past 20 years, he lived in Rockport, Massachusetts, where often he could be seen walking his beloved chocolate lab, Otis, his constant companion. He loved music, particularly the rhythm and blues sounds of the ’50s and ’60s, and appropriately named his dog after the late Otis Redding.
Stanley was a kind, caring, and compassionate person whom we will dearly miss.
Stanley is survived by his brother, Joel Sherman (Sue); by his niece, Abigail Katz (Andrew); by his nephew, Daniel Sherman; by his grand-nephew, Jacob Sherman; and by his grand-nieces, Maya and Elsa Katz.
