Dr. Stephen C. Price, of Newton, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 13th, 2025, surrounded by his immediate family in the comfort of his home. He was 85 years old.
Steve was born on January 17, 1940, in Lynn, Massachusetts, to Rose (Damsky) and Philip Price. Though an only child, Steve was a member of an extensive family community - spanning both Lynn and Boston - including his beloved cousins, Elsa and Verna Bloom, with whom he lived under the same roof for many years, along with their mother / Steve’s aunt, Sara (Damsky).
A graduate of Lynn English High School, Steve went on to attend Harvard College, earning a BA in economics in the spring of 1961.
Upon graduation, Steve followed through on a desire to pursue a career in musical theatre by moving to New York City, where he composed an original children's musical, “The Purple Dragon.” Though it may not have been his initial intended setting, Steve found an outlet for his musical talent as the pianist for the Navy Chaplain, a role he relished for while serving in the Naval reserves at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn for three years during the Vietnam War.
Following his service, Steve moved to Williamsburg, Brooklyn, becoming a fixture in the local political scene. He founded a democratic club during a transformational time in the city, helping to empower many progressive candidates for office in the late 1960s and early ‘70s.
Seeking to expand his ability to serve communities that he loved, Steve earned his Master’s in Public Administration from NYU in 1975 and his Ph.D. in Public Policy from the Heller School at Brandeis University in 1979.
Steve would see his life come full circle later that year when he returned to work in his hometown, joining the Lynn Community Health Center as a mental health counselor. While at LMHC, Steve went on to serve as a senior clinical supervisor for many other clinicians over a career that spanned more than 40 years.
Furthering a lifelong love of learning, Steve enrolled at the Boston Graduate School of Psychoanalysis (then called the Boston Center for Modern Psychoanalytic Studies) as one of its very first students in 1977. He graduated from BCMPS in 1989 and joined the faculty, teaching and supervising more than three decades of students. He was a fixture at BGSP parties; he could play any tune on the piano by ear and enthusiastically accompanied others’ singing along to Christmas carols and show tunes.
Steve’s love of music – particularly classical music and Broadway musicals – was a fixture throughout his life. At 60, he composed the music for “Reunion”, a musical he wrote with two of his college classmates, Phil Carl and Dan Klein. The show was performed at their class’ 40th Harvard reunion.
Steve was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Dr. Lynn Perlman, his two sons, Aaron Perlman-Price and Mark (Perlman-Price) Priceman, two daughters in law, Jenny Morrissey and Julia (Waugaman) Priceman, and three granddaughters, Sadie Priceman, Vivian Priceman, and Vaughn Morrissey-Price.
