Stuart S Peterfreund

Peterfreund, Dr. Stuart S., of Cambridge, MA, passed away on July 19, 2017. Beloved husband of Christina Sieber. Devoted father of Sarah Peterfreund. Loving brother of Jay Peterfreund. Dear uncle of Marissa Applebaum, and great-uncle of Michael Applebaum. A poet and scholar whose academic interests included the English Romantic poets and the history of science, Professor Peterfreund was a long-time member of the Department of English at Northeastern University. He took great pride in supporting the development of the University into a world-class institution, and in promoting the growth of its graduate program in English. A proud alumnus of Cornell University (Class of '66), U. of California (Irvine) and U. of Washington (Seattle), Professor Peterfreund leavened his scholarship with wit, gourmet cooking, and blues harmonica. Graveside services at Mt. Ararat Cemetery, (Farmingdale, NY) on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at 1PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dr. Peterfreund’s memory may be made to the Urban College of Boston, 178 Tremont St, Boston, MA 02111, an independent two-year college focused on providing disadvantaged students with academic and career opportunity.
