

RODMAN, Sumner "Sonny" of Dedham, formerly of Chestnut Hill, died on Wednesday, August 24, 2011, age 96. For 68 years the devoted husband of the late Helen (Morris) Rodman. Beloved father of John S. Rodman and his wife Pamela T. Rodman of Danville, PA and the late Peter W. Rodman and his surviving wife Veronique Boulad Rodman of Washington, D.C. Dear grandfather of Theodora, Nicholas, Calvin and Lydia Rodman. Dear brother of Bertram Rodman and the late Dorothy L. Stern and Robert M. Rodman. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Founder, Rodman Insurance Agency, Inc., Needham; Chartered Life Underwriter and Life Insurance Advisor; Proud Alumnus of Boston Latin School ('31) and Harvard College ('35); U.S. Army 1941-1946, ETO, SHAEF; Lifelong tennis player; Actively involved in numerous organizations including Temple Israel, ADL, CJP, AJC, JF&CS, Newton Squash & Tennis Club, Wightman Tennis Center, Harvard Varsity Club, USA Tennis New England (Hall of Fame 1992), Youth Tennis Foundation, Alzheimers Association, Shawmut Lodge of Masons, World Affairs Council, American Society of Chartered Life Underwriters (Pres. 1972-73), Million Dollar Round Table, Boston Estate Planning Council, Boston Life Underwriters Association (Pres. 1965-66). Services at Temple Israel, 477 Longwood Avenue, Boston on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at 10am. Burial in Sharon Memorial Park, Sharon. Memorial observance immediately following at NewBridge on the Charles, Route 135, Dedham. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to a charity of one's choice.
