Born in 1945, and raised in the Midwood area of Brooklyn, NY; she was the eldest of three
children born to Shirley and Henry Waltzer. She married James W. Flanders, Jr. in 1969 and
they had two children, Jason and Justin. Elissa went to college at Brooklyn College to
become an elementary school teacher. As a kindergarten and first grade teacher at P.S. 200,
she had a great impact on shaping young minds. Elissa always enjoyed running into her
former students and hearing how she had helped them. After retiring from education, she
enjoyed traveling and babysitting her grandchildren. She is survived by her sons, Jason S.
Flanders (Susan Epstein) and Justin C. Flanders (Jennie Rae DeVerna), her grandchildren:
Hannah, William, Rocco, Harley, Legend and Savannah; her sister, JoEllen Schwarcz
(Michael) and brother Frank Waltzer (Laurie Salt). The funeral will be held at Parkside
Chapel, 1700 Coney Island Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11230 with the burial to follow at New
Montefiore Cemetery.
