

James Charles Finkel, Sr., passed away surrounded by the love of his family. A proud American and dedicated servant to both his faith and his country, James was a long-time member of the Catholic War Veterans, where he served with honor as Past National Commander. He was also a devoted member of the Knights of Columbus, achieving the distinguished title of Fourth Degree Knight.
James was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lorraine D. Finkel, who passed on April 22, 2009, and by his son, James Charles Finkel, Jr., who passed on January 8, 2005. He was also preceded in death by his siblings Sonny and Stephen.
He is survived by his brother William and his sister Barbara.
James leaves behind his loving children: William James, Dawn Marie, Deborah Ann, and Catherine.
He was a proud grandfather to James Edward, Jennifer Lynn, Eugene Michael, Nicole Marie, Stephanie Marie, John Kenneth, Jr., Pattyann, Naomi, William, Joseph, and Nicholas.
He was also blessed with great-grandchildren who brought him much joy: Justin, Brianna, Madison, and Jason.
James will be remembered for his strong faith, his service, his unwavering loyalty to his family, and his unmistakable humor and warmth. His stories, laughter, and the love he shared will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
May he rest in eternal peace.
A visitation will be held at John J. Healey Funeral Home, located at 2005 West 6th Street, Brooklyn, NY 11223, on November 5, 2025, from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
The Mass of Christian Burial will take place at the Church of Sts. Simon & Jude, located at 185 Van Sicklen St, Brooklyn, NY 11223, on November 6, 2025, from 9:45 am to 10:30 am.
Interment with Army Military Honors will occur at Calverton National Cemetery, located at 210 Princeton Blvd., Calverton, NY 11792, on November 6, 2025, from 12:30 pm to 1:00 pm.
