

Lawrence Hurley “Butch” Marks was born March 26, 1943 to
Hazel Grace Hurley and Masoliner Marks. Butch transitioned
home on December 5, 2019 of natural causes.
Butch was born in Newport, Rhode Island but later moved to
New York in his youth. He was educated in the New York
public education system and worked as an auto mechanic. He
also spent his pastime as a disc jockey in the New York area.
Butch’s union with his longtime love, Wanda Martin, produced
his one and only child, Lawrence A. Marks (Larry) and daughter
VeNeice Austin.
Butch was known as “Dad” and best friend to Larry. He was so
proud of him and it showed in their conversations. Butch was
known significantly to others by his smile and willingness to
help because of his handiness. He was always good with his
hands and knew just about everything there was to know from
every trade there was. Butch was a believer in humanity and
developed many friends over his lifetime. His best friend, Mike
Fordham, has always been a shoulder to lean on. Butch also
felt a close connection to the fur babies he adopted along the
way.
Butch is survived by two previous wives, Terry and Anise; his
two half sisters, Robin Bluford and Sandra Glover (Roy); his
daughter VeNeice Austin; his son Lawrence Marks (TJuani);
four grandchildren Talequia Hamilton, Lawrence A. Marks, II,
Aldina Austin, Ianna Austin, and three great grandchildren Jayla,
Trent and Janiya.
Butch is preceded in death by his Mother Hazel Hurley, Father
Masoliner Marks, and Wanda Martin.
