Stephanie K. Wissinger passed away on November 15. Our hearts are broken. She went peacefully among friends and family at home. She had battled bravely against breast cancer for the past three years.
Stephanie was born in 1965 in Queens, NY, to Bill and Liz Wissinger. She grew up in Garden City Park, Long Island, attending Holy Spirit grade school and Sacred Heart Academy. She graduated in the first coed class of Columbia College, where she was a member of the Phi Epsilon Pi fraternity. She later graduated from Brooklyn Law School. Stephanie had several careers, but her passion was caring for animals. Vice President of Little Wanderers Cat Rescue, she volunteered many years at animal shelters and fostered numerous cat rescues.
Stephanie was known for her wry sense of humor, a love of show tunes (and ability to quote them verbatim), dedication to friends and family, and superlative taste in shoes and coats. She baked a mean wedding cake, loved to travel, and was always the last to leave the party.
She is survived by her partner, Tony Limuaco, of Brooklyn, NY, her sister, Anne Louise Wissinger Scandariato, of Hurleyville, NY, and numerous cousins and extended family in Lehigh Valley, PA, where she loved to visit.
Stephanie requested donations in her honor be made to Animal Care Shelters of New York at nycacc.org.
A memorial visitation for Stephanie's memory will be held on Sunday, December 3rd. The visitation will take place from 1:00 to 2:00 pm, followed by a service from 2:00 to 3:00 pm at Joseph G. Duffy Funeral Home, located at 255 9th Street in Brooklyn, NY 11215. A Post Memorial Service Gathering will be held at Freddy's Bar at 627 5th Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11215.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.josephgduffy.com for the Wissinger family.
