Robert Pellington Smith

Robert Pellington Smith, age 93, of Brooksville, FL. died on Sunday, September 6, 2015, at the Hernando Pasco Hospice Care Center, in Lecanto, FL. Robert was a 51 year resident of Brooksville , coming from Brevard County for 5 years and originally from Tampa, FL. Robert was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Army Air Corp. serving in the South Pacific Theater for 20 months including the Philippines and Tokyo at the end of the war as part of the Signal Corp. Robert retired after 30 years with Southern Bell as a Toll Test Operator. Robert enjoyed being an Amateur Radio Operator and was an avid Private Pilot. Baptist by faith, Robert was a 12 year member of the First Baptist Church of Brooksville, and served as a Deacon for a number of years. Robert was preceded in death by his daughter Jillian, and by his brother, William Wharton Smith, Jr. He is survived by his loving wife, Johneva (Griffin) Smith, of Brooksville, FL., son, Robert Smith and his wife Susan, of Sonoma, CA. as well as grandsons, Ryan Smith and Justin Smith both of Sonoma, CA. Funeral arrangements and care are entrusted to the Turner Funeral Homes, 504 E. Jefferson St. Brooksville, FL 34601. The family and friend will gather for a visitation at the First Baptist Church of Brooksville, 420 Howell Avenue, Brooksville, FL. on Saturday, September 12, 2015, from 10-11 AM. The funeral service will be held in the church at 11 AM, with Pastor Eddie Gandy and Rev. Bill Shaw officiating. A reception will follow at the church fellowship hall following the service on Saturday. The Graveside Service and committal will be held at the Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park in Clearwater, FL on Sunday September 13, 2015 at 12 noon. At his family’s request, In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Robert’s memory to the First Baptist Church of Brooksville.
