It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Dr Jean Sioufi, who died peacefully at home on February 22, 2026, surrounded by his loving wife and three sons, at the age of 93.
He leaves to mourn his devoted wife for the past 66 years, Marguerite (née Aboulehaf); his sons, Wagdi (Dina), Richard (Tina) and Rolland; his grandchildren, Jeffrey, Isabella and Katherine; his sisters-in-law, Marcelle and Minerva; his brother-in-law, Bishara (Leila); as well as numerous cherished nephews, nieces, relatives, friends and former colleagues. He will join his beloved brother-in-law and best friend, Samir, in Heaven.
Jean was born on January 5, 1933 in Cairo, Egypt. Orphaned at the young age of five, he was raised by his grandmother and uncle in a humble household with limited resources. He persevered and worked hard to raise funds by tutoring and working as a teacher’s assistant at his high school to help pay for his education.
He excelled academically and at the young age of 19, he received a full medical scholarship at the prestigious University of Cairo. Jean graduated as a medical doctor, with honours, at 24 years of age. After completing his residency in general surgery, he began a career in medicine that would span over 50 years.
While practicing in Cairo, Jean met his first and true love of his life, “Maggy.” They immigrated to Montreal, Canada in the summer of Expo ‘67, with their one year-old son. They hence began their life together alongside his wife’s family, starting what would become a lifetime of prioritizing family and togetherness.
As his Egyptian surgical specialty was not recognized in Canada, he was obliged to complete another residency and was encouraged to re-specialize in the field of anesthesiology. After completing his 5-year specialty training at McGill University, all while raising a young family, he was recruited to the medical staff at the Lakeshore General Hospital. Dr Sioufi’s distinguished career spanned more than 40 years on staff at the same hospital, including 16 years in the role of Chief of Anesthesia. In addition, he was an assistant professor at McGill University where his passion for teaching and strong conviction for higher education was realized with the privilege of working and guiding his children, grandchildren, students, residents and staff.
Jean was always a very humble, gracious, generous, intelligent and loving man, always putting the needs of others before his own. He was a natural provider and healer to not only his family and patients, but to anyone and everyone who needed his help. Dr Sioufi was respected and beloved by his peers and to everyone who knew him.
Jean will forever be remembered for his devotion to his family. He loved nothing more than to be surrounded by his loved ones. His huge presence will be forever missed, and he will never be forgotten, always a guiding light, a pillar and the foundation of his family.
Special thanks to his home caregiver, Mary, as well as Sandra and Gurpinder who all helped take care of Dr Sioufi for the last two years until his last breath.
The family will receive condolences at the viewing on Sunday March 15th, from 2pm to 5pm at: La Maison Darche 7679 Boulevard Taschereau, Brossard, Québec, J4Y 1A2.
A service and tribute will take place that same day at 5pm at the chapel within the same funeral home.
Your expressions of sympathy may be made in his name through a donation to the Lakeshore General Hospital Foundation (Department of Anesthesiology) or to the Anna-Laberge Hospital Foundation.
