

BROWNSVILLE, TX – Alfonso Mendoza Gomez, born January 11, 1938 in Brownsville, Texas, entered into the arms of our Lord and Savior for his eternal rest on January 23, 2021. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Maria Irma Paredes Gomez, son Eli Gomez, and granddaughter Joanna Martinez.
A diehard fan of the Dallas Cowboys, old westerns, classic cars, and Tejano music, he spent his life bringing joy to a family of seven children and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He retired from the Brownsville Independent School District and Walmart after working in many different occupations, including migrant farmwork, commercial driving, maintenance, and painting. He will be remembered as a loving father, custodian to stray animals, and patient gardener. A gentle and unassuming man, he took great comfort in prayer and reading his Bible. Through his example, he passed on a great respect for all living things, a playful sense of humor, and empathy for the less fortunate.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Norma (Freddy) Cardenas, Beatriz Pulido, Belinda (Rigo) Pedraza, and Susana Gomez; sons, Alfonso (Norma) Gomez Jr., and Rodney (Sara) Gomez; grandchildren Rebecca, Victoria, Jennifer, Sandy, Emily, Manuel, Antonio, Tabitha, Tiffany, Alfonso, Alejandro, Eli, April, Fabian, and Gemma; as well as numerous great grandchildren, siblings, cousins, and other relatives.
The Gomez family extends its deepest gratitude to Valley Regional Medical Center, Solara Specialty Hospital, and the office of Dr. Ronaldo Factoriza for their compassionate medical care.
