Alicia T. Saldana was welcomed in to the arms of her Lord and Savior on May 4, 2024 at the age of 102. She was a loving and devoted daughter, an honorable wife to her beloved Panchito, beautiful mother, grandmother, great- grandmother and great-great grandmother. She was born on June 11, 1921 to the late Leonor and Aurelio Trevino in Brownsville, Texas. She is preceded in death by her husband, her daughter Guadalupe (Lupita) Perales, two brothers and one sister.
On July 1938, she married the late Francisco Saldana. They were married for 75 years and had a beautiful life together. Together, Francisco and Alicia raised four children. Surviving her is one son, Fidel Saldana (Amelia +), two daughters, Frances S. Cardenas (Juan +) and Maria S. Hinojosa (Eduardo +); 13 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 13 great -great- grandchildren.
Alicia was a member of Iglesia Bautista Southmost and later Iglesia Menonita del Cordero. She was an unwavering believer in the Lord always sharing the good Word with friends and family. She served the lord with great passion. She was also a member of her "grupo femenil" where she participated in home bible studies.
Alicia Saldana was a compassionate, noble and humble woman who worked tirelessly alongside her husband. She devoted her entire life to caring for her family, taking care and raising many of her grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Alicia cherished every moment with her family. As our counselor, one could count on her for her words of wisdom and encouragement. We would all bring our prayer requests to her for our trips, school, job searches, illnesses and difficulties in life as well as celebrating with her the boundless blessings from above. She was our prayer warrior. Her sweet voice always brought comfort and her tender touch warmed every heart. She was easy going, always in a good mood and had a heart of gold. Alicia would sing her hymns while she worked away in the kitchen making her delicious sopitas, her "masita", flour tortillas with butter and refried beans, chile en el molcajete, and her famous tamales! She was an excellent seamstress and sewed many outfits for her family, all the while trying to teach some of the girls to follow in her footsteps. She held different jobs throughout her life although she talked often of the times they traveled as a family to work in the fields up north and came back with hard earned money to finish building their home. She leaves her loving family beautiful memories and a legacy of a life well lived by the grace of God.
A visitation for Alicia will be held Tuesday, June 18, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a Prayer Service at 7 pm in Chapel of Peace, at Funeraria del Angel Buena Vista, 125 Mcdavitt Blvd, Brownsville, Texas 78521.
