Chita Rodriguez Gudino passed away Thursday, February 9th, 2023, at her daughter’s home in Corpus Christi, TX. Chita was 90 years old. She is the daughter of Lazaro Rodriguez and Virginia Garcia of La Villa, TX. She joins her husband Salvador Gudino Flores (†1996), mother Virginia Rodriguez Garcia (†1994), father Lazaro Rodriguez, sisters Maria Consuelo Capasso (†2020) and Andrea Rodriguez in Heaven.
Chita married the great love of her life, Salvador Gudino Flores, in 1959 in Brownsville, TX. It was in Brownsville where they settled and formed their life. She lived her life in a manner in which she became the matriarch of the Rodriguez family.
Early in her career she studied interior design. Chita went on to obtain a PhD from Kennedy-Western University in Developmental Psychology and was a licensed Psychologist and Professional Counselor in the state of Texas. She had a passion for helping people which she pursued through her profession. Chita valued education and was a member of intellectual society, MENSA, in which she served as a proctor.
Above all, Chita was a devout Catholic who loved God and her family profoundly. She was known to pray a full rosary for each of her loved ones who might be in need each day.
Chita was an avid reader with a voracious appetite for learning. She spoke with child-like wonder of her books that ranged in topic from metaphysics and neuroscience to her guilty pleasure, murder mystery novels. She found beauty in animals, especially baby animals, and wildlife including plants and flowers, a trait passed down from her mother.
She was also a four-time cancer survivor who never failed to live her life on her own terms.
She leaves behind her daughter Mary Jane Ramos; two siblings, Juana Espinoza and Merce Rodriguez, three grandchildren Andrew “Miguelito” and his wife Yvonne, Lauren Andrea, and Christiana Ramos; three great-granddaughters Arybella, Luna, and Valentina Chita Ramos; son-in-law Lorenzo Ramos; nieces Francesca Capasso, Virginia De La Garza, Veronica Rodriguez, Sylvia Wilson; nephews William and Joseph Capasso, Merce Rodriguez, Rogelio De Los Santos Jr, Noe De Los Santos, Salvador De Los Santos.
A visitation for Chita will be held Sunday, February 19, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM with a rosary at 7:00 PM in Chapel of Peace at Funeraria del Angel Buena Vista, 125 Mcdavitt Blvd, Brownsville, Texas 78521. A mass will occur Monday, February 20, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe, 1200 Lincoln St, Brownsville, Texas 78521. Followed by a burial at 11:00 AM at Buena Vista Burial Park, 5 Mcdavitt Blvd, Brownsville, Texas 78521.
