Consuelo Leija

Nacida de Martina Méndez y Rafael Marines, Consuelo fue precedida en muerte por sus amados padres, su esposo Jesús Leija, y su querida hija Vanessa Leija.

Le sobreviven sus dos hijas, Mireya Leija y Gabriela Leija, quienes llevarán por siempre su amor y fortaleza en el corazón. También deja a diez nietos que la adoraban profundamente: Jesús Leija, Miguel Leija, Valeria Leija, Amanda Aguilar, Jacqueline Aguilar, Marisela Aguilar, Eric Aguilar, Richard Aguilar, Jessica Aguilar y Vanessa Leija. Además, tuvo la dicha de conocer a su bisnieta, Valentina Leija, quien llenó de alegría sus últimos años.

La mayor pasión de Consuelo era la cocina — su cocina era el corazón de su hogar, donde la familia se reunía y se creaban recuerdos inolvidables. Quedó viuda a una edad temprana y, con gran fortaleza y amor incondicional, asumió los roles de madre y padre para sus hijas. Era una cuidadora nata, siempre anteponiendo a su familia, demostrando su amor en cada comida y en cada trenza hecha con cariño a sus hijas y nietas.

Su sonrisa brillante, su sentido del humor y su calidez la hacían única. Era conocida por sus bromas, su espíritu cariñoso, y por hacer que todos se sintieran como en casa. Tenía una forma especial de iluminar cualquier lugar y fue profundamente amada por todos los que la conocieron.

El legado de Consuelo es uno de fuerza, amor y alegría — una mujer que lo dio todo por su familia y que nunca pidió nada a cambio. Su memoria vivirá eternamente en los corazones de quienes la amaron.

La visitación se llevará a cabo el martes 14 de octubre de 2025 desde la 1:00 PM hasta el miércoles 15 de octubre de 2025 a las 12:00 pm en Funeraria del Ángel Rose Lawn, ubicada en 4464 Old Port Isabel Rd, Brownsville, TX 78526. El rosario se rezará el 14 de octubre a las 7:00 PM. El servicio en la capilla será el 15 de octubre a las 12:00 PM, seguido por la cremación.

Consuelo Leija, lovingly known as "amá" to her family and "Chelito" to her friends, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2025, at the age of 74 in Brownsville, Texas.

Born to Martina Mendez and Rafael Marines, Consuelo was preceded in death by her beloved parents, her devoted husband Jesus Leija, and her cherished daughter Vanessa Leija.

She is survived by her two daughters, Mireya Leija and Gabriela Leija, who will forever carry her love and strength in their hearts. Ama also leaves behind ten grandchildren who adored her deeply: Jesus Leija, Miguel Leija, Valeria Leija, Amanda Aguilar, Jacqueline Aguilar, Marisela Aguilar, Eric Aguilar, Richard Aguilar, Jessica Aguilar, and Vanessa Leija. She was also blessed with one great-granddaughter, Valentina Leija, who brought her so much joy in her final years.

Consuelo’s greatest passion was cooking — her kitchen was the heart of her home, where family gathered and memories were made. Widowed at a young age, she stepped up with unmatched strength and unconditional love, taking on the roles of both mother and father for her children. She was a natural caregiver, always putting her family first, and showing her love through every warm meal and every tightly braided hair.

Her bright smile, sharp sense of humor, and endless warmth made her a joy to be around. She was known for her jokes, her nurturing spirit, and the way she made everyone feel at home. She had a special way of lighting up any room and was deeply loved by all who knew her.

Consuelo’s legacy is one of resilience, love, and laughter — a woman who gave everything for her family and asked for little in return. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved her.

A visitation will be held from on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 from 1:00 PM until Wednesday, October 15, 2025 at 12:00 PM, at Funeraria del Angel Rose Lawn, located at 4464 Old Port Isabel Rd, Brownsville, TX 78526. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM on October 14. Chapel service will follow on October 15 at 12:00 PM, with cremation to follow.
