Emilio Sandoval Jr., a private and fiercely independent man, passed away recently at the age of 63. Emilio lived life quietly, with a strong sense of self and an unwavering commitment to keeping his personal life just that—personal. He didn’t like others knowing his struggles, and he relied on no one but himself.
Those close to him knew that Emilio didn’t say much, but when he did, it was often punctuated by his infamous phrase: “Pues, tú dijistes.” A line delivered with a smirk, a shrug, or a knowing look—it was classic Emilio, a subtle way of calling things like he saw them, with his trademark dry humor.
Though reserved, Emilio found comfort in the familiar joys of life. He was a loyal football fan who never missed a game and enjoyed the routine of going to the mall, often just to walk around, observe, and enjoy being in the world on his own terms.
Emilio leaves behind a small circle of family and a few who truly understood and respected him. In remembering him, we honor a man who didn’t ask for much, spoke only when it mattered, and lived life the way he wanted—quiet, steady, and always true to himself.
He will be missed, but never forgotten. Pues, tú dijistes, Emilio—rest easy.
Emilio is survived by his mother Matilde Sandoval, his brothers Noe Sandoval and George Sandoval. Emilio was preceded in death by his father Emilio Sandoval †.
True to his wishes and character, there will be no viewing or formal services held. Emilio preferred to keep things simple and private, even in parting.
