The beautiful lady known as Ama (Ama Tina):
Her heart is fuller than any other – her laughter echoes and fills the room with instant smiles – her hypnotizing green eyes gleam brighter than the vitality of life – the love and affection she extends is greater than the oceans end – without a dime to her name, she will give you all she has without expecting anything in return – her house is more than just a home, it’s a safe and loving place where your stomach is filled, your soul is at peace, and love is expressed; it’s a place of teaching about life’s ups and downs, a place where one can express themselves and expect it in return – the only place you can find an open door at any time of the day or night with Amma sitting in the living room awaiting our arrival to ensure our safety.
Born to Raul Hinojosa and Isabel Sada Hinojosa on December 14, 1923, in Kingsville, Texas, she had no name other than, “Baby Girl Hinojosa” on her birth certificate. Soon after she was given the name of Ernestina Hinojosa. Being the eldest of two, she and her sister, Blanca Estrella Hinojosa Vera, were raised and taught to be the utmost family loving ladies. Although her education was limited, her heartfelt ways covered everything life could send her.
On July 8, 1939, she married Rodolfo Escobar, who would be her lifelong love – together they entered parenthood raising a daughter, Graciela Ernestina Escobar and a son, Daniel Escobar.Through the 39 years of marriage, Ama devotedly stood beside her husband as a military wife to a Sgt. Of the U.S. Army during WWII; as well as to a Sheriff, and Firefighter of Port Isabel,Texas, all the while loving and raising their family. Together they saw their children through graduation, college and stood as proud parents when their son, Danny followed in his dads footsteps, joining the U.S. Army and going to the Vietnam War.
As years passed, they would become grandparents to six whom they would open their hearts and home to and raise as their own. On September 9, 1978, with a saddened heart, Ama laid her husband to rest. Being a dedicated and strong woman, she continued to raise her six grandchildren, Brenda Beth Bejarano, Belinda Beatrice Bejarano, Mario Bejarano Jr., Grace Michelle Herrera, Michael Herrera, and Charles Christopher Herrera as her own. With so much love yet to give, Amma welcomed with open arms two more grandchildren, Rodolfo Daniel Cunningham and Natasha Danielle Escobar. Over the years, Ama not only loved but welcomed 34 great-grandchildren and 21 great-great-grandchildren.
Through all of life’s struggles, changes, and sacrifices, Ama managed to maintain her home in a loving and caring manner never to show anything less than happiness within herself and those around her.
Ernestina (con la “H”) Escobar lived a wonderful life. We have been honored and beyond blessed to be loved by her throughout her 100 years. “Gracias por todo lo que has hecho en nuestras vidas, Ama – te amamos – su amor vivira para siempre en nuestros corazones.
*me voy porque amarte no puedo - regresare cuando estes mas contento*
With heavy hearts, amazing memories and peaceful souls we gather to say, “no se despiden, nomas Hasta Manana, con el favor de Dios” to the Beautiful Lady who we all know as Ama.
